I came across this very well put together video a little while ago. It is about the generation that is moving into power as you read this: Generation We.
In 2015 in America (I believe the U.S. that is) 74 Million people are considered to be part of the population group Baby Boomers. They have been born between 1946 - 1964. This group is followed by the Generation X which incorporated all those born between 1965 and 1977. In the eBook “Generation We” by Eric Greenberg with Karl Weber the Generation X group is considered “… a politically and socially conservative cohort that has struggled to define itself against the vast and dominant Boomer group it followed.” I this makes me part of this group. I never considered myself to struggle with my place in society nor feeling suppressed by my parents generation.. However, the new Generation are the Millennials born between the years 1978 till 2000. What this generation has to deal with and what their opportunities are is shown in the video below.
Eric Greenberg is using the online social networking to promote the Millennials as the Gen(eration) We and to activate members of this section of the population. This generation will be more diverse than any other before (White 63%, Hispanic 18%, Black 14%, Asian 5%).Their education is good and who would have guessed that, they will are also the most wired ones. Interested in more about Gen We? Take a look in to the above mentioned eBook.
All these facts and predictions are of interest when we take a look into online learning and the ease this generation is using technology in the educational field. Generation X needs to shape up to find the right ways to cater towards the next generations needs. a simple PowerPoint presentation based in a flash widget and maybe some underlying sound does not seem to be enough anymore. More so the opportunity for learners to interact with each other and the content itself while learning. Rearranging content while discussing and arguing for the right solution seems more the way to get cognitively involved than simply absorb some fixed and inflexible content.
I am in Hanover right now at the Educational Trade Fair (aka didacta) at our scoyo booth and do some promotion for our recently launched online learning platform in German for school children in age range from 6 till 14 years old. Here is a video impression and me trying to fix our presentation. I’ll be posting some more pictures later when I am back at home.
There are a few great speeches and other moving pictures available on various video website. I gathered some of them here that came to mind and that I personally like the most. The order in this post is random since I think all of them are pretty great.
Steve Jobs’ 2005 Stanford Commencement Address
Paul Potts sings Opera ( Britain’s got talent )

Feel free to post your most inspiring video!
UPDATE: Over night, while I was laying awake in my bed, I thought about a presentation my cousin sent me a little while ago. This one will fit perfectly into this post as an addition to inspiring website, not video and moving pictures necessarily. ChangeThis.com is a website whose goal it is “…to challenge the way ideas are created and spread.” The presentation I received and found very much worth reading is about “A Positive Attitude” from Dan Auito. Who honestly couldn’t use a little reminder every now and then
I haven’t been posting anything to this blog for over a year and three month. I think it is time for a change and get back on track and start blogging again what I am passionate about. Leaves the question, what is it that I am passionate about and want to blog about? Here is a list of things I want to post about in my blog:
eLearning (which ever version applies these days, I believe it is 2.0 right now)
To manifest the state of change here at my blog I updated the theme today. I chose a clear and simple design since this is the way webdesign and its usability is heading towards in my opinion.

UPDATE: Apperently the first post had a little glitch. I couldn’t get rid of the letter ‘n’ in front of the poll I wanted to be displyed within the post using Democracy AJAX Poll verison 2.1. After trying for alomst 3 hours to find an answer to my problem. I canned the plugin and now I am happy to use WP-Polls verison 2.40 from Lester Chan. The downsite I haven’t figured out how to display a poll within a post. If you have an answer please leave a comment right here or send an email to webmaster [Email address: webmaster #AT# dstaemmler.info - replace #AT# with @ ].
Obviously I have not posted anything recently. Now I am officially announcing that I am going to take a break for a while until I have more time to blog about Learning, Technology and Health. In the meantime feel free to browse the archive of my blog or follow one of the numerous links.
The official Google Blog reports on the first year anniversary of the free available WiFi Network in Mountain View, CA the home of Google. The 400+ mesh routers are being used by 15.000 unique users every month that use roughly 300GB each day of network traffic.
Sine I am living in San Francisco I hope that the effort of Google and Earthlink will bring the free WiFi access to the city. To push this initiative forward people living in San Francisco can contact the Board of Supervisors.
Meraki is another project that tried to encourage existing WiFi network owners to open up their network for others. You can sign up and plug in a so called Meraki repeater that configures itself to extend the freely available network. Meraki is backed by Google and Sequoia Capital and has been initially a Ph.D. research project at MIT.
